The 12 Tools of Christmas continues! Today's tool will help you cut right through any problems, Ha!
The box knife is sturdy and useful for opening packages, cutting up boxes, etc. Since the blades are replaceable, you can abuse this knife a little more than you typically might with a pocket knife or the Leatherman. The blades are generally sharper than a pocket knife, and they can be stored in a tool box or belt without the danger of accidental stabbings. As with any tool, there are a large variety of great box knives, but here are our two favorites.
Stanley Classic Retractable Utility Knife - As basic as they come! The retractable feature allows you to change the length of the exposed blade, this is helpful in protecting against the blade breaking. It can also help you avoid cutting too deeply into sensitive packages. One great option is to store extra blades inside the handle, which makes this knife great for cars or storm shelters or anywhere else where you might not need to access it regularly.

Husky Sure-Grip Utility Knife - This blade locks into place, offering a little extra safety. I carry this in my tool belt every day for inspecting. I like that it is smaller than a classic box knife, and that it has a belt clip lowering the chances of me putting it down somewhere and losing it. Finally, replacing the blades on this knife is exceptionally easy, I can switch the blade around in a matter of seconds. The only drawbacks are that there is no blade storage in the handle, and the folding mechanism makes it a little less sturdy than a classic retractable knife. For every day use, though, it is my favorite!

So, before all those gifts sealed in hard plastic packaging need to be opened on Christmas morning, order a box knife. We recommend getting both types, because one is never really enough!
