Putting up lights for the holidays? Here are a few basic safety tips to consider!
Picture
1. Block out water - wrap all connections with electrical tape, and use GFCI outlets with protective covers.

2. Know what your outlets power - outdoor lights can trip circuits cutting off electricity to prevent damage. This is great protection, but it can also turn off unexpected items such as deep freezers. If possible, keep appliances on separate ground faults from your lights.

3. Slow and steady - take your time on ladders and roofs! Surfaces can be slick, so always use precaution when moving around.

4. Follow the labels - read boxes for limits on how many sets/strands can be connected, whether the lights are approved for outdoor use or not, and any other safety advice listed. Then follow the directions!

Enjoy the lights!
